8 Tips For Combat In Diablo 4
Diablo 4 features many hard-hitting enemies that can quickly take
down careless players, especially when you push toward the late game of
Diablo 4; the challenge will begin to ramp up out of control, so making
proper mechanics critical to your survival. Don’t worry; as you descend
into the depths of this highly-anticipated role-playing game, here we’ll
give you some pointers to help you make the most of your journey in
Diablo 4 Sanctuary.
Always Stay Mobile During Combat
We
highly recommend always staying mobile during combat to avoid taking
unnecessary damage, especially against groups of enemies with plenty of
ranged projectiles. While it’s tempting to stand still and send a
barrage of skills flying at your foes, you should only do this when
you’re sure the enemy can’t retaliate.
Utilize Crowd Control Skills
We
highly recommend having at least one source of Crowd Control in your
set of skills, as abilities of this type often slow or disable enemies,
making it easier to handle groups of mobs, Elites, and bosses. Some
examples of Crowd Control skills for each class include Frost Nova,
Ground Stomp, Petrify, Caltrops and Decrepify.
Group Up Enemies
For
each of the classes in Diablo 4, several abilities will hit a
designated area, pierce through targets, or splash damage to nearby
enemies. When enemies are grouped, they’ll take the maximum damage from
these spells. To clear areas as efficiently as possible, group up
monsters to take advantage of this multi-target damage.
Use Environment To Your Advantage
Base
your combat strategy on the layout of the area you’re fighting in.
Monsters can be grouped up and kited much easier in tight spaces, but
you can’t circle around to avoid damage. Enemy AOE spells can be deadly
in these spaces - but so can yours. Putting your enemies in a
disadvantageous position where you can sweep them all with a single
area-of-effect or crowd control skill can quickly turn the tide of
battle.
Know Exits And Safe Areas
Controlling
the positioning of the battlefield is one of the best ways to win every
combat situation. When the enemy has the positional upper hand, be
ready to slip out of a sticky situation by knowing the area’s exits and
safe spaces. Take note of any spaces that aren’t currently under siege,
pillars that you can hide behind, or any other environmental objects
that let you regain the flow of action. For example, the entrance that
you use to enter an area is usually a good exit strategy.
Engage High-priority Targets First
Ranged
minions are generally high-damage low-health glass cannons that’ll melt
your HP if left untouched. Enemies like these need to be irradiated as
your top priority in battle. Whenever you enter a new area, identify all
ranged & summoner minions and rush to take them out first. Ignore
the high-health low-damage brawlers, even if they’re Elites, run past
them to the high-priority targets, and deal with them later.
Slow And Steady Wins Every Fight
As
long as you don’t die, you’ll eventually kill every monster in the
game. Focusing on damage rather than survivability is fun, but it’s not
the most effective. Spend more time thinking about your health pool than
the enemies you’re fighting, and you’ll always be safe. Because it
doesn’t matter how fast you are if you die.
Look for Nearby Shrines
If
you’re about to face a particularly dangerous Elite or boss, try to
look around for a nearby Shrine. While the effects they give can vary,
the additional movement speed and unique buffs provided by each Shrine
can give you a massive edge against hard-to-take-down enemies.
All
in all, regardless of your class and current progression through the
game, understanding these mechanics will increase your chance of
successfully emerging from your next deadly situation in Diablo 4.
