Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Divine Beasts Explained

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a loose adaptation of the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. While this historical setting paints Wo Long's backdrop, the game seems to dip into some more fantastical elements. In this game, players can unlock a series of Divine Beasts. Each of these beasts is based on a different creature from Chinese mythology. These creatures have the power to repel Demonic Qi, and players can call upon them to gain great strength and overcome difficult challenges in combat.

Before you can call upon the powers of a Divine Beast, you must first fill up the Divine Beast Gauge. This can be found on the bottom right of the HUD, above your Wizardry Spells, and to the right of your Martial Arts. The gauge is presented as a dark silhouette of the Beast's icon when empty and slowly fills with a dull coloration as you deal and take damage in combat. Once the gauge is filled, it flashes with vibrant colors, signifying that the Divine Beast can now be summoned.

Players can use these Divine Beasts in two distinct ways: Summoning and Resonation. Summoning a Divine Beast will spawn the creature in front of the player and make them carry out some form of special attack. Resonation refers to when the player uses the power of a Divine Beast to imbue themselves or their weapon with a certain trait. Players can equip one Divine Beast at a time and the currently equipped Beast can be switched for another one at any Battle Flag checkpoint throughout a mission, allowing you to tune your build and strategies to adapt to varying situations and enemy compositions.

Now five Divine Beasts have been confirmed so far, and Each of them represents a different element. Let's take a look!

Baihu (White Tiger) will accompany you for a set period of time to fight alongside you. Excels in debuffing enemies. Metal Phase.

Qinglong (Azure Dragon) has the power to greatly heal yourself and your nearby allies. Excels in support and recovery. Wood Phase.

Xuanwu (Black Turtle) will remain still for a period of time and launch ice projectiles at enemies. Excels in stealth. Water Phase.

Zhuque (Red Phoenix) has the power to engulf the nearby area in the fire. Excels in attack. Fire Phase.

Qilin has the power to summon stone pillars to impact nearby enemies. Defense-oriented. Excels in defense. Earth Phase.

In addition, each Beast also has a set of Divine Beast's Favors which grant passive bonuses to a player as long as the Beast is equipped. These bonuses range from increased Spirit Attack damage and improved buff durations to reduced Spirit Consumption for Wizardry Spells and these effects do not require charging of the Divine Beast Gauge.

So far, it all looks interesting. Fans of Team Ninja's signature challenge will likely have a good time when Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is released on February 24, 2023, on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
